Part 2: Finding The Grey in A Black and White

Part 2: Finding The Grey in A Black and White

Hello beautiful wellness seekers, I'm Liz Moser, and  I'm a Mayo Clinic and National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach.

Last week I explored when life gets challenging, and my clients can't find the time for their committed actions, I council: something is always better than nothing. A 10-minute workout is better than no workout. Show up and do something.

This is a challenging message to integrate because many of us were taught the opposite: that old and damaging narrative that if you can’t perform a task correctly, don’t do it at all.

No wonder, when the road of life has a few speed bumps and things don't go as planned, it's second nature for us to want to give up altogether.

I also shared about the life challenges and time crunches I’m facing since the new year.  How with several of my committed wellness habits and actions, I've had to cut back the amount of time I spend on them, and despite what I tell my clients, it was and is hard for me to compromise and allow for my current best effort, even if it’s not my ideal.

Sometimes coaches have a hard time taking our own good advice!

Since much of the previous last video was about my experiences, I thought it made sense to circle back and reiterate the 4 specific reasons I believe it’s essential to continue your habits, even in an abbreviated version.

Those four reasons are:
Grey Area
Integrity
Health
Physics

1 - Grey area: Let go of your old outdated, doesn't serve you story,  that if you can't do it right, don't do it at all and embrace the grey area in our black and white world. This is a calmer, saner, more self-loving way to live.

2 – Integrity: Be a person of integrity. Dang, it, you said you'd work out today, so do it! Be a person you can count on!

3 -  Healthier: I don’t care what you say. Ha! The 10-minute or 3-minute workout is healthier in the long run than no workout.  It just is!

4 -  Physics: the mini workout is the larger workouts place holder in your life, and a body at rest tends to stay at rest, and a body in motion tends to stay in motion. Be that body in motion!

Let go of your old belief that if you can't do it right, don't do it at all. Be a person of your word. Choose the healthier option even if it’s not your ideal, and there is value in maintaining a place setter, so to speak, for your habits.

Think of a car: it takes less time and energy to accelerate a car from 5 mph to 60 mph than it would if your car was turned off and you had to start the car, warm it up and then accelerate to  60 mph.

It’s fundamental physics: a body at rest tends to remain at rest and a body in motion tends to stay in motion. When we let go of black and white or all or nothing thinking and embrace the gray area, we abide by the laws of physics and stay in motion, even in a small way.
